Information technology

Information Technology

Information technology (IT), as defined by the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA), is «the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware.»[1] IT deals with the use of electronic computers and computer software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit, and securely retrieve information.
Today, the term information technology has ballooned to encompass many aspects of computing and technology, and the term has become very recognizable. The information technology umbrella can be quite large, covering many fields. IT professionals perform a variety of duties that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases. A few of the duties that IT professionals perform may include data management, networking, engineering computer hardware, database and software design, as well as the management and administration of entire systems.
When computer and communications technologies are combined, the result is information technology, or «infotech». Information technology is a general term that describes any technology that helps to produce, manipulate, store, communicate, and/or disseminate information. Presumably, when speaking of Information Technology (IT) as a whole, it is noted that the use of computers and information are associated.
The term information technology is sometimes said to have been coined by Jim Domsic of Michigan in November 1981.[citation needed] Domsic, who worked as a computer manager for an automotive related industry, is supposed to have created the term to modernize the outdated phrase «data processing». The Oxford English Dictionary, however, in defining information technology as «the branch of technology concerned with the dissemination, processing, and storage of information, esp. by means of computers» provides an illustrative quote from the year 1958 (Leavitt & Whisler in Harvard Business Rev. XXXVI. 41/1 «The new technology does not yet have a single established name. We shall call it information technology.») that predates the so-far unsubstantiated Domsic coinage.
In recent years ABET and the ACM have collaborated to form accreditation and curriculum standards for degrees in Information Technology as a distinct field of study separate from both Computer Science and Information Systems. SIGITE is the ACM working group for defining these standards.

There are many people, who heared about the security tools, available for data protection. But it is not an easy issue to understand to those who are not software literate. In this article we will look at this issue in order to understand that.

With the growth of information technologies, people own a lot of professional or personal information, which has both a financial and emotional value. As people get vulnerable to numerous security threats, they become more and more aware of the ways they could overcome their vulnerability. And this security concern is common to all people, especially when it comes to lose something they possess. This is why the security products, available on the IT security market, are more and more commonly expanded in Europe and USA.

Among many people who rely on different kinds of digital assets in their businesses and private life, there are some whose main concern is how to protect them. There are also people who think that it is too far for them to make a decision on purchasing existing security products, because they do not have any special knowledge in security. Here we would like to come up with the data, which would help you to get a start in considering the ways you could protect your information.

At first look, it seems that the security products market is so sophisticated, that without any professional knowledge it is not possible to understand what kind of products you need. You may think that it is so much complicated to be able to analyze what solutions exist, what for they may be used and which one is right for you to purchase.

These questions and the solutions to them may seem vague to people with excellence in other areas, but with no knowledge in the IT security. By giving the answers to these and other related questions, we will help you define your needs and decide which data protection and access control solutions will best suit your needs.
1. What is the security software for and how can it help people?
While the security products industry is largely expanding in the world, there are more and more areas where it can be used. The Dekart Company has committed itself to developing solutions that can be easily deployed and used by people.

Most of the digital assets, available on the market, are designed with the option for the security hardware installation. The PCs and many mobile devices that can be connected to PCs (like mobile phones) and that may have an increased need for security, are technically available now to be protected.

From another point of view, there are products, which can be of real help in protecting important data (like hard disk encryption and file encryption software, brought to you by Dekart). These products can protect any type of data for any kind of people, who are interested in protection of their business information, scientific researches, as well as personal information. This type of protection ensures that no data will be accessed and viewed by unauthorized malicious users, even if your computer is lost or stolen or if there are many people who can access it.

The security products have another large area of usage. When there is the need to control access to the office computers, Dekart offers its smart card and biometric authentication solutions. The state-of-the-art biometric identification improves the security of login procedures, thus ensuring that no third party will access critically important information.
Users now can also protect and encrypt their email correspondence using Dekart digital certification service in combination with the smart card and biometric authentication.

There are different hardware devices used to provide two- and three-factor authentication to secure access to the information. Dekart offers the flexibility to choose between different vendors’ smart cards, tokens, biometric devices and even USB flash drives to satisfy users’ security needs.

How to discuss being fired from your last job in an interview and still look like a star candidate

How to Discuss Being Fired from Your Last Job in an Interview and STILL Look like a Star Candidate

Mid-managers and executives get fired for lots of reasons. Some are legitimate for performance reasons and some firings are completely unjustified. Regardless of the reason for being let go, there are solid methods for communicating the circumstances without hurting your candidacy with potential future employers.

Here are three solid steps you can take to have successful interviews after being fired.

Step #1 — Give yourself time to decompress

This is the most important step you can and will take. If you have lost your job most likely you will go through a grieving process — similar to other significant life-losses we all experience. If you interview prematurely, you may inadvertently «wear your grief» and/or find yourself unable to talk about your last employer with the kind of convincing detachment and discretion you will need to keep interviewers focused and excited about the value you offer them.

What if you need to begin to interview right away? To speed up your «grieving process» while still honoring that time cycle, take a ceremonial weekend vacation, book a round of golf, take a spa day or a family picnic by the lake. Whatever you decide, make sure it’s fun and relaxing because this is your decompression time…just for yourself! Title your outing: «Your Ceremonial Moving On.» This is a physical process that evokes very real physical and mental benefits.

I have seen this «Moving-On Ceremony» work wonders with my clients and I promise it will work for you too. In fact, I have used it myself. When I left my last employer my husband threw me a congratulatory dinner and I bought myself a big decadent slice of carrot cake, stuck and candle in it and we spent the evening talking about the future. It was wonderful!

Step #2 — Identify your allies

You want to contact any and all allies you have and had with your last company. These can include past colleagues, people that worked for you, key executives, clients and vendors. Anyone that can attest to your strengths, your attributes and anything positive. In applicable cases, those individuals who can diplomatically hint that there were problems beyond your control with your last company can be especially helpful. Remember, references can be provided by lots of other people besides your past «boss.»

Step #3 — Prescript a BRIEF, but clear, statement

Develop a brief statement about the reason you were fired and practice saying it. You can use it in your upcoming interviews. Keep it short, simple and clear. Here is an example:

«Unfortunately, I had no choice but to leave my last employer. When I originally took the position, I was excited about________. At first blush, it seemed that their recent merger was going well. I had no idea there was such internal animosity amongst management. Perhaps in my excitement about the opportunity I missed the subtle signs. If I were to interview for another merger situation, I would certainly know what questions to ask. Now I am focusing my attention on moving forward and I am quite excited to be here to talk with you about your corporation’s goals.»

No matter what you «say,» the secret is to be positive, bold and forward-thinking. Your interviewers will focus on whatever you shine the spot light on, so keep your attention on them, their challenges and how you can help.

Using these three steps, you can easily turn a situation you may be worrying about into a non-issue. Remember, too, many people who have been fired are afraid that they will have to make big sacrifices in order to land their next position. But most of the time this is simply not the case. Use the situation to reflect on whatever can be learned from it, use these powerful techniques to minimize any damage and simply move on!

Important facts to remember when shipping gifts abroad

Important Facts To Remember When Shipping Gifts Abroad

A lot of families spread out over time, sometimes this can be because of work or it could be retiring abroad to make the most of their free time without the stresses of work on their mind. These relatives may expect not to get anything more than a birthday card in the mail, especially if they have moved from the UK to some far off country like Canada or New Zealand.

But imagine the look of surprise on their face if they were to receive a parcel on their birthday or at Christmas from you with a gift inside, it would show you really care for them and be a very special present they’ll likely not forget. This situation is now more possible than ever with parcel couriers able to deliver to far away countries but without breaking the bank on shipping costs.

There are many courier companies we are all familiar with like UPS, DHL and FedEx who are experts when it comes to international parcels, usually for business reasons, but now these companies are branching out to personal use too, whether it’s selling goods on eBay or in this instance sending a present abroad.

There are a few things to bear in mind when shipping gifts; if it is a fragile object then you should support it correctly using insulating materials such as bubble wrap or polystyrene. Sending gifts internationally will need a customs form if it is going outside of the EU, clearly marked as a gift to ensure the recipient doesn’t end up with a bill for customs and duty.

Some countries do not have gift tax exemptions though so you must make sure you fill out the form correctly, clearly stating value so that the receiver doesn’t get billed instead of you, as well as ensuring it doesn’t get returned to you. Many countries have value limits on gifts, so make sure you are well versed in the customs and duty implications of the country you are sending to.

A good idea for sending gifts is to gift wrap the actual gift, then place it inside a sturdy cardboard box for shipping in. This way the gift is protected during transit as well as retaining the attractive presentation and excitement of unwrapping a present from a loved one.

Whilst many parcel couriers will be able to send parcels very quickly, you may find that it is cheaper if you send earlier, so making sure you send your parcel ahead of time and you could save money on shipping costs.

Sending gifts abroad is not nearly as expensive or complicated as you may think, make sure you choose a shipping service that offers worldwide parcel delivery to your chosen country and you’re already halfway there!

1. Shipping Racks

Shipping rack is a steel or aluminum rack frame designed to protect components and products while they are being shipped over the road or by rail. Shipping racks are usually used for transporting parts ranging from to engines, to lawn mowers, to mufflers, to agricultural tractor components and everything in between.
Stackable shipping racks are designed in such a way that they can be 4 or 5 loads high to save warehouse space. In many instances, the racks can be designed to stack 2 high during shipment, reducing your freight costs.

Often shipping racks are designed with sides that can fold down.  This allows empty racks to be stacked more densely for lower freight costs on the return trip. This also prevents the rack posts from being misplaced in shipment.

Custom shipping rack design can be customized to the size, dunnage, weight capacity, construction materials, etc. to make a shipping rack fit your product, the way you want.

2. Steel Coil Storage Rack System

Coil racks are structural rack frame of steel tubing designed for receiving steel coils and holding them off the floor or ground. Coil storage racking stores steel coils and reels safely and efficiently, which allows steel or metal fabricators or distributors to maximize their storage space.

Stackable coil racks maximize your storage space by allowing you to add a second or third level of storage. This opens up a large amount of valuable floor space for other uses.

A coil rack is designed to protect the finish and edges of your material and prevent elongation or «squashing».

The portable racks also provide security for the coils as they are being moved in your operation. It is often faster and easier for a forklift truck to pick up a loaded rack than a loose coil. In some applications the stacking racks are also used to stage the coils, and the product in the roll can be fed directly into the production process from the rack.

How to buy a no money down property

How To Buy a No Money Down Property

Believe it or not, it is absolutely possible to purchase property without putting paying a down payment. Here is how to buy a no money down property

1. Buy short sale or foreclosed upon property. The sellers are usually so anxious to be rid of the property that the mortgage lender will waive the need to pay a down payment.

2. Take over an existing mortgage. Taking over someone’s mortgage is different and, often, easier than applying for your own mortgage and rarely involves paying a down payment.

3. Ask your mortgage lender to absorb the down payment percentage into the overall cost of the mortgage loan. This allows you to purchase a no money down property, though you will usually face a higher monthly payment and a longer repayment period.

4. Ask your bank or mortgage lender if they have a «no money down» program that you can take part in. Some banks offer these programs to help people with smaller incomes get into their own homes without having to make a down payment.

5. Ask your real estate broker if he or she knows of any no money down properties. Some sellers are not picky about getting down payments and will sell their houses and offices as no money down property to speed up the sale process.

6. Offer to pay Private Mortgage Insurance instead of putting down a down payment. Some banks will allow buyers to wave the cost of Private Mortgage Insurance if the down payment is large enough. Offer to pay a higher private mortgage insurance rate if the down payment can be waved.

Putting down a down payment toward a piece of property is no longer a requirement. It is possible to by no money down property simply by getting your down payment waived.
